Two Wells Probus Club is a great way of socialising, meeting new people and having some fantastic guest speakers. Each month is always something different.

On 23 February, a short meeting was had with minutes from previous meeting, business arising, treasurer’s report, etc. It was great to see people from Red Cross, Mallala Probus and others attending.

Anne then made mention of two special people, Joan Post and Glenys Middleton who had recently passed away. A minute silence was then performed.

Anne spoke about the Christmas Luncheon in November, that was supposed to be at the Angle Vale Tavern, but unfortunately they rang that morning saying they could not accommodate us.

Virginia “V” was approached, and they were happy for us to attend. Anne managed to contact most with only a couple of people unfortunately going to the Angle Vale Tavern (you would think she would remember her sister-in-law), but at least she eventually attended the changed venue.

It was a great afternoon. Anne did comment on how much dessert Brenda could eat, mind you Anne was also helping her!

A few Probus members attended the lovely visit to the Christmas Luncheon at Mallala.

The Australia Day meeting in January was cancelled due to the extreme heat, but the Australia Day ceremony at Mallala was able to be held as it was in the Mallala Clubrooms and early in the morning.

Lorraine Applebee, Yolanda Cannizzaro, Irene Giannikos and Christine Trimboli all have birthdays this month.

Ann Stodart was the winner of the Lucky Door Prize with Lucky Squares going to Irene Giannikos and Lorraine Applebee. The next meeting is the Annual General Meeting, on 23 March.

Anne mentioned that instead of having a guest speaker that the Australia Day Pack, done by Pamela Duncan, could be used. Please bring a

plate for a brunch-shared luncheon after the meeting, with no morning tea.

Our guest speaker was Penny Pratt, Member of Parliament. Penny started by saying “Australia is lucky, anyone can become a member of council or Parliament”.

Penny was born in the Mid North area, a farmer’s daughter, who became a teacher. She taught values of working hard to attain what you want.

Her father was connected with Norwood Football Club, and with hard work, won a seat in Federal Parliament against all his odds. Penny left teaching, became a security guard, and became interested in the National Immigration system.

She moved to Queensland, then came back to work for Steven Marshall as Chief of Staff working with under-privileged children covering Two Wells, Mallala, Riverton and all areas around.

Penny went to an election in 2022 and won her seat. She has got rebates for people who have to travel long distances for chemo etc. or to see specialists.

Unfortunately time was up, with Anne presented Penny, and Karen Smith her Office Manager with a bakery voucher each. Penny and Karen also attended the Two Wells Tavern, with quite a few Probus members.

Penny was then was able to speak more on her work as a Member of Parliament, and what it entails. It was a very enjoyable Probus meeting and luncheon. The April and May meetings have guest speaker Jo Grotto taking about ANZAC Day (April) and chocolate making (May).

Our Probus meetings are on the fourth Monday of the month and if interested in coming along, please contact Anne Arbon on 0438 854 441.
