Tuesday, 3 March saw the monthly meeting for the Two Wells Red Cross Members. It was a good attendance, but a few more members would be very rewarding.
It was good to see visitors from the Two Wells Probus attend. It is good members of other clubs can come along and support each other.
A general meeting was held, with the President and Secretary giving reports as well as the Treasurer. Just a reminder all funds given to the Two Wells Branch go directly to Red Cross Headquarters.
It is great this branch can forward money on a regular basis. The next fundraising event will be the Mother’s Day Raffle.
Mother’s Day this year will be on Sunday, 10 May. Any contributions towards this raffle will be greatly appreciated and anyone willing to sell some tickets, it is a very worthwhile cause.
There is always lots of goodies in the many gift baskets made up for the raffle prizes. Mollie Frost will have some books on hand, so please ask for a few books, or see any Red Cross member.
Special mention once again to the Two Wells Chemmart, Bella Mia, Two Wells craft Shop, Two Wells Bakery (who also have a donation tin, which is emptied on a regular basis, so thank you once again for any donations), the Rising Sun Hotel at Port Wakefield will also sell a lot of tickets and help Red Cross as much as it can.
Speaker for this month was Sue Dugan (my apologies for last month’s report in calling you Ann!) from the Adelaide Plains Council.
Sue also bought along David Bailey, Council’s Manager Growth and Investment, who shared about the growth being planned across Adelaide Plains and, in particular, at Two Wells and Korunye.
Adelaide Plains is currently about 12,000 people and through Greater Adelaide Regional Planning, being planned to eventually be some 23,000 people in 2050.
The big growth area for which a lot more work is needed is at Korunye, immediately north of the overall Two Wells Liberty housing estate.
In response to various questions, David shared about ongoing discussions and what work is involved with creating liveable communities, working to address known challenges around things for growing and often younger residents to do, and how to reduce the barriers to living a great life locally.
This included sport and recreation, libraries, the town centre, designing a main street to be accessible for people of varying abilities, water, sewer, and also addressing the flood risk from the Gawler River.
Information was briefly shared to highlight the community consultation happening now for the Adelaide Plains Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) and encouragement for everyone to share their thoughts on how we can improve our community for everyone.
Unfortunately, they had to leave, but what an interesting insight into the future of Two Wells. It was then time for afternoon tea, and much more discussions.
Red Cross meet in the Catholic Church Hall every first Tuesday of the month starting at 1pm with afternoon tea to end the meetings. Please contact Judy Heaslip, President on 0417 852 059 or Di Henwood, Secretary on 0487 050 487 for any further information required.
