SA LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE DUBLIN REPORT
Sheep – 7 April
A small post-Easter yarding came forward as agents offered 2200 lambs and 300 sheep. Quality was generally very good with the usual trade and processor buyers joined by feeders and restockers providing steady competition.
A result that does not occur very often saw heavy woolly Merino lambs equal to, or dearer, in some cases, than their crossbred counterparts.
Agents quoted heavy Merino lambs making an estimated 1150 cents per kilogram carcase weight with skin values between $17 to $25 per head. A small but good selection of mutton sold to generally firm rates.
Crossbred light stores sold from $180 to $250 as better types ranged from $240 to $256 per head. Trade weights sold from $245 to $275, heavy trades ranged from $280 to $305 with extreme heavy weights selling from $320 to $360 per head.
Light Merino stores sold from $130 to $180 as the better types sold from $245 to $290 per head. Trade weights ranged from $245 to $268, heavy weights returned $275 to $285 with the few extreme heavy weights selling from $310 to $360 per head.
Light mutton sold from $120 to $150, trade weights returned $180 to $200 with heavy weights selling from $245 to $270 per head.
