FOR many travelling north of, or south to, Adelaide, a “stop in Wakey for a steaky” is a must.
Taking part in the Summer Plan Dining Cashback program, the Rising Sun Hotel at Port Wakefield is hoping people turn off the highway and enjoy some Wakey hospitality.
The Dining Cashback program gives winners 50% cashback, up to the value of $50, when they dine at participating hospitality venues or purchase from local seafood retailers.*
South Australians aged 18 and over can enter the ballot now for a chance to win a Dining Cashback in the next draw on 2 January 2026.
Port Wakefield, located more than 100 kilometres north of Adelaide, offers a gateway to the Yorke Peninsula, to the Mid North or north to the Spencer Gulf and beyond.
While the algal bloom has affected local fishers who fish in the Gulf of St Vincent, Rising Sun Hotel co-owner Bek Stodart said they decided to participate in the Dining Cashback program as it was a smart initiative to bring visitors out to communities like Port Wakefield.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to encourage people to get out and support our region; we offer great dining experiences at the hotel and we want people to come visit Port Wakefield to see that we are more than just what you see when you stop for fuel on the highway,” she said.
She said the hotel offered a great space for families in its beer garden, where children could run around and play whilst parents enjoyed a break.
“Port Wakefield is a perfect place to stop for a break or meet halfway between Yorkes, northern SA and Adelaide and we hope people will be loyal to us during this time.”
Mrs Stodart said the hotel was grateful for the opportunity, and there were many patrons already asking about the program.
